Why do I do this to myself...I should of posted this last week...sorry ;)

That was the question that I asked myself as Coach Brian, Vane and I did hill speed workout.

Let me start by explaining the story... In order for us to get faster we need to obviously run faster and do several other things to get faster. So of course we ask our crazy coach Brian (3:09 marathon time) to train us. Our first practice was on one COLD January 2nd the weather was 20 degrees and the wind…well all I can say is that I thought I was going to fall over at one point. On our first practice we started with the Yasso 800's, boy these were so much harder than I thought. Picture this if you can….we are on a track with Coach B, and the intervals consist of 800 meter runs. My goal is to aim for a 4:15-4:30 hour marathon finish time, then run your 800 meter interval in 4:15 to 4:30 minutes. Jog for another 4 minutes and then repeat by running another 800 meters in 4:15-4:30 minutes. We were suppose to do this a total of 8 repetitions, but given the fridge wind, Vane and I only did 6, and I was totally ok with that.

Now, last night it was a much "nicer" night to run and with the weather up to a warmer 32 degrees it was not as bad. We met Coach B, at 6:45 to warm up. Then we ran the 3 mile lower loop of the park and then it began. Hill/speed workout…two words that should never ever go together!! We started at a pretty little light post by 69th I would say not too sure, and we ran passed Tavern on the Green….easy right? So not!! Running with Coach is so hard because he pushes us and does not let us give up. Let me explain the workout... Start at the light post at a moderate pace, we will say 65%, then increase to 75%. Once you hit the hill we need to pick up our pace to 80% and have a quicker turn over with our feet. Once we hit the top of this hill stay at 85% but elongate your stride and push through to the end spot. At this point, both Vane and I thought we were going to pass out. We did a total of 8 repetitions.

I honestly didn’t even think we were going to make it past 5 ( I was so happy to hear that Vane thought the same thing once we were done) but we did 8. I have said it once and I will say it again…Running is a mind game. Half the time I am playing this game and last night I had my mind telling me to stop. I thought I was going to pass out but then like a little devil on my shoulder I had Coach B telling me push through it, keep going to the sign, don’t stop. It worked I didn’t stop I kept pushing and yes after I hit the sign I wanted to DIE! But at the same time I never felt more alive. I love the feeling that running gives me. The feeling of power, accomplishment and most of all of feeling like a ROCK STAR!

So although I might be cursing myself out and Coach B, I know its for the best and I do enjoy our training sessions and I cant wait to keep it going…4:30 for Paris is definitely looking good…..4:15 for NYC even better!!!!

Till next time...FYI on Saturday the 9th I ran 10 miles with Vane on what was going to be the coldest day of the year. It ended up only being 20 degrees ha ha only 20, like that's considered warm! It was a great run the only thing was that as soon as we hit the 10 mile mark we STOPPED. Which was the wrong thing to do know we now...no stopping on cold days no matter how tired we are.

This weekend we will be doing 12 miles two loops of the park.
